Feeling Overwhelmed with Cabin Fever!

Getting outside has been my “go to” for sanity and if I meet someone on the trails I greet the warmly but from a distance. A smile and a wave goes a long way in making my day.  I feel very privileged to live in Burk’s Falls with extensive walking and hiking trails.  I realize not everyone has the ability to get out of their homes.  I control what I can, write down the things I am so grateful for, do something that makes me laugh, dance crazy alone in my living room and try very hard not to worry and stew over what is out of my control.  Have any tips for our next few weeks on how you keep sane without close face to face contact with family & friends ?  I would love to hear them so please leave a comment.

This has been my GETTING OUTSIDE stress relief.

The past few weeks have been a challenge for everyone.  Some feel isolated, others feel crowded (families) everyone has their life out of sync!  I am no exception.  Trying very hard to keep my clients serviced while adhering to the very necessary social distancing, screening and of course, disinfecting.  I have taken this time to reorganize my home and office and thoroughly clean everything.  With no children or other family members (with of course the exception of my sweet dogs) in my home, I slip into anxiety and fear, which are useless, draining emotions, so keep reminding myself “this too shall end”

Beside social distancing, I try to find ways of doing my part;  thanking our front line people who bring, sell & distribute our groceries and supplies. Showing gratitude to our health care system workers and all my family members who are supportive.  I have made an effort everyday to thank someone in a small way, whether it is for staying home and isolated or working from home and caring for children or other family members, employers and businesses owners desperately trying to keep afloat, everyone deserves an big thank you for doing your part.

Here are some of MY sold properties in the couple of months of this year……this market time

is very active with many of my listings sold .  If you are thinking of selling please give me a call to get it sold, so that part of your life is not still on hold.  We are still active and open for business in buying and selling properties and our procedures are compliant with Health Canada in screening, protocols being diligently done by our colleagues and staff to keep everyone healthy and safe.

Reflection of 2019 Welcome 2020

Reflection of 2019 Welcome 2020

Christmas Eve Tamblyn Family Visit. Made Mom’s day with family spending the afternoon with her.

As the new year begins, most of us are reflecting on the past year.  I have so much to be grateful for but I am always a little sad moving forward into the new year.  I guess it is the realization that some of those special moments can’t be recreated, just remembered.  Every year people make new resolutions for the coming year but I find that any time or day of the year, can be a turning point . A goal for a new direction in business or personal life can be set and a plan made to achieve it. I try to focus on something I can improve on and last year it was my health.  I made a plan on how to achieve it, track the progress and success (set backs and failures) and tweek the plan to work with my lifestyle resulting in a more positive outcome.  My goal last year was to get my blood pressure back to a healthy state.  It may be one goal but I had to determine all the factors that I had to change in my lifestyle to get that goal, weight loss, activity level, sleep patterns, stress  and just taking a little me time.  When I looked at all those changes I thought that I may never achieve all of them (which I didn’t) but my success would be determined by my goal of healthy blood pressure.  Happy to say goal achieved!

This year I am going to focus on building my real estate business into a larger company and make sure none of my clients are lacking in service.  Working on organizing the steps I am going to have to take to accomplish to reach that goal is going to take some time but I hope to have the first couple of steps in completed by the end of January.  Onward and Upward!

I have started putting all the Christmas decorations away for the year but I do like to leave the trees with white lights and a few winter decorations outside.  It just seems so bare and cold with out decorations to reflect what a wonderful season winter is.  I did decorate the B&B over the holidays and put in a cozy fireplace. I have more guests coming throughout the winter to go skating at Arrowhead Park, snowshoeing about Almaguin Highlands, snowmobiling throughout the area and visiting the ice caves and other attractions.

The weather so far has been good for me, on the nature walking trails in Powassan just boots, no snowshoes are necessary with the dogs and I so loving our daily hikes the woodlands. Unfortunately I am no photographer, wearing big gloves, in the dark, trying not to stumble, these are the best I could do……I am really upset that the trail looks so unobstructed and even because believe me it is not and I fall or stumble on them at least once everyday…..then again maybe I am just clumsy!

The real estate market, throughout the Villages of Almaguin, is still very active with these 3 sales happening in the past month and a few more are closing in January.  If you are thinking to wait until spring, this just goes to show that in winter every type of property does sell.  Also in the winter there are fewer listings which tends to make your property stand out as the shiny penny without the competition from the influx of other listings coming on in the spring. Contact me today” Your Go To Realtor” and I will move your property sooner than later.

December a Conflicting Month for Many

December a Conflicting Month for Many

December is filled with family, friends, get-togethers, parties and celebrations.  I myself look forward to wonderful visits and lots of noise and love.  It also makes me sad because of the ones we have lost that will be missed this Christmas as they are every year as the time passes.  New family members are born or are added as significant others to grow our family to an immense, fantastic size. Other family obligations and distance keep some from this holiday visit but the communication lines with modern technology keeps them close.  I am so grateful for the ones I will see either in person or a video chat and just the thought makes me smile.

Our Santa Parade was this past weekend and although I personally could not see it my local family said it was a great parade of lights.  Many small communities throughout the Villages of Almaguin have different types of events in December so be sure to support and attend if you live in or are visiting our area. Winter Wonderland sleigh rides anyone?  Here is a link to book your family ride today for the holidays. Horse Drawn Sleigh Rides

REALTOR Food Bank Donation

As our lives become hectic with social plans, family visits and holiday functions, please be KIND to everyone this season.  So many appear to be “Crabbit Apples” with a bah humbug attitude but just are overwhelmed with sadness or coping with financial pressures beyond their control.  Understanding, kindness and reaching out to those less fortunate, no matter what the cause, is something we all need to do more of.  Never become “too busy”  to take a moment to call a friend you haven’t spoke to in a while or give a big warm smile to a stranger, after all “Tis the Season”

The real estate market is enjoying a surge of business with the arrival of the snow and many buyers enjoying what the area has to offer.  Listing your property in the winter has many

wintery back road

benefits:  there is fewer competitive properties listed making yours the shiny penny and getting more for your property; roads and driveways are frozen so no dealing with muddy roads or getting stuck in muddy country laneways; the snow easily blows off of furniture being moved in the cold rather than becoming saturated with spring rain. If you are interested in hearing about more of them please contact me.  Don’t wait until spring sales are happening now.

Long Absence Over

My Mom 90th Birthday!

Cherish Laughter

Hi Everyone, I have not written a blog post in quite sometime. Personal obligations were prioritised over the last few months. Not to get into personal details but caring for an ageing parent became somewhat overwhelming and some extra business related items had to take a back seat for a while to keep my client service optimum. I now feel that my routine has been established to resume some of my insights and updates again on social media.

Cutest Dogs Ever!

I have a new look! My hair is cut and going back to the natural colour(which will take a few more months to fully take effect). Also I prioritised my health and have became much more fit with the weight loss of over 75 lbs. To run a full time business, care for a parent with dementia and just be the best Mom & “Amma” for all my family it was a necessary change.

Real estate sales has been robust again this year but prices have stabilised for many types of properties in our area and it has became a very balanced market. This allows optimum expectations to be met for the sellers and a reasonable price paid for the buyers. Although many sales were expected in the early fall, mother nature had different ideas (lots of rain and yukky viewing weather) and it was mid to late October before the fall market got back into full swing. Now at the end of November sales have picked up in all price ranges and types of properties.

Don’t be afraid to list in the winter.  Next Blog to give you tips on why winter is a great time to sell.  Talk again in a couple of weeks signing off for now…..”Your Go To Realtor for The Villages of Almaguin” Louisa

March In Like Lamb?

March In Like Lamb?

Well the middle of March was mild with rain…but that next few days more snow.  I had to buy potted hyacinths and tulips to remind me new growth will come bountifully from beneath that big heavy blanket of snow.  The snow is still celebrated by snowmobilers, winter enthusiasts and adventurous people looking for something different to do.  South River Ice ribbon  The Magnetawan Public School children enjoyed making Snow Sculptures again this year.  A great outdoor

activity for families as well….how about adorning our front lawn with one!  Snow Sculptures

It is March break for the school children this week and the snowmobile trails (up til now) have been fantastic.  Ice on Lake Cecebe this past week end was more than four feet think so this spring thaw may be a long one.  Much of the snow has become very heavy with the rain so please make sure the roof of your cottage, home, barn, has be shoveled off with this exception snow load.  Also with the melt will come the water engorged ditches under the snow so sledders be very careful and stick to the trails.  Looking at the snow over my garden I may have flowers by next August!  OK maybe that time line is a bit exaggerated but there is still 3 feet of snow cover on my lawn and 8 foot snow banks in my parking lot.

I have a commercial property that I would like to feature this week.  An excellent building conforming to fire and health codes, great floor space, handicap accessible, paved parking and wonderful business exposure.  Looking to open or relocate your business?  Have a look at this quality building in a fantastic location.  Virtual tour

On the other side of the property spectrum I have listed a cottage property on desirable Pickerel Lake.  Level lot, sand entry into water…a perfect family setup.  Here are a few photos:

On a different note I have started an AirBnB.  With travelers accommodation being non-existent in the village I decided to open up my newly renovated apartment to people needing overnight stays:  Here is a link to the site and some photos of the interior:  Weeza’s AirBnB

With a whisper from Mother Nature that spring is definitely coming our way, many listings are coming on the market.  Don’t wait too long if you are interested in selling your property, call or email me today for a free evaluation and we can go over my marketing plan to get your property sold quickly.  In the market to buy?  There may be something of interest in one of the 24 listings I presently represent….if not, I am certified as an Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR®)  and I will make every effort to find it for you.  Signing off look for my Almaguin Highlands update the first of April.

Back to Routine in 2019

Back to Routine in 2019

Today everything at work is business as usual but schools had a snow day, giving all the IMG_2420children riding buses, one more day to claim as holiday time.  I was very happy not to venture out this afternoon as the roads and weather turned nasty.
This evening, letting the dogs out, the trees howled with the north wind blowing snow off the rooftops and down the street. In this video not much to see but the great, big, roaring sound is Mother Nature a wee bit on the cranky side.

Catching up with work after holidays makes me feel out of sync with my schedule.  pexels-photo-265087It seemed everything I thought could be accomplished today was a far reach from actual reality.  As the week progresses hopefullyfront things will fall into place. The market is still busy, with a frontcommercial and residential property just sold this week, dwindling my listing inventory.  Many sellers do not have their properties listed through the winter months as they feel buyers will not be viewing property because of the snow.  Winter months are more challenging but technology, summer photos, google earth overviews and a determined Real Estate Agent meattract buyers interested in purchasing property.  Many of the properties available this season have become the shiny pennies to buyers needing to make a move, however lack of inventory makes for a small pool of listings to choose from.   Does it sound like I am asking for your listing?

Well, yes I am….just give me a call or email and I will market your property to find the right buyer.

IMG_1126If you are looking for a career change or to be your own boss don’t forget the great business opportunity in Sundridge.  The Double Decker fast food restaurant is closed for the winter but you could buy now and start up first thing in the spring.  Great business to run year round with good location, Highway 11 signage and a spot well known in the area.  A perfect business venture for someone to be self employed and make a good income.  Fast Food Restaurant
On a different note…..there is another commercial property that may be developed.

This year round waterfront home has 18 acres that is zoned for commercial recreational use.  It could be used as a campground, build a cottage resort or anything that falls into that type of category.  The residence is beautiful with a commanding view of Doe Lake, sand beach and clean water entry.  Have a look at the details it could be the investment you have been looking for.  Waterfront Opportunity

Well it is off to sleep for me now…. listening to the wintery sounds from my nice warm bed.  Read my blog next week new commercial listing coming and new sales too!
